At noon on Thursday, a truck driver was shot to death in what appears to have been an attempted robbery on the Mexico-Toluca highway, near the municipality of Ocoyoacac, State of Mexico.
After the incident, the authorities of the State of Mexico have not reported any arrests for this crime.
According to the police of the district, the attack occurred around 11:00 a.m. at kilometer 40 of said highway, specifically in the place known as Río Hondito, heading towards the capital of the State of Mexico.
Initial reports indicate that the truck driver, whose vehicle had license plates LF-15-202, was intercepted by alleged criminals, who attempted to assault him.
The body of the operator was found a few meters from the unit, with several bullet wounds on the body.
In light of this, local authorities indicated that the motive for the crime appears to be an attempted robbery, but the attackers were unable to take the cargo vehicle. So far, no further details have been revealed about the type of merchandise the truck was transporting.
Members of the State of Mexico Security Secretariat (SSEM) were the first to cordon off the area to preserve the crime scene, while personnel from the National Highway Guard and members of the National Defense Secretariat (Sedena) also went to the site to reinforce security.
The area was kept under guard until the arrival of experts and agents from the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Mexico (FGJEM), who carried out the corresponding procedures for the removal of the body and the collection of evidence. According to the versions of witnesses and sources close to the investigation, the attackers managed to escape without a trace, and at the moment there is no precise information about their identity.
The murder of a driver on the Mexico-Toluca highway has caused concern among transporters and citizens who travel daily on this road, which in recent months has seen an increase in crimes related to cargo theft with severe violence. Authorities continue investigations to find those responsible for this homicide and ensure that it does not go unpunished.
