A video is circulating on social media recorded on an avenue in Mazatlán in which people are heard shouting “it was a mistake to vote for Obrador” and has a caption that says “this is how things are in Mazatlán.” But the audio does not correspond to the facts, it was inserted in an edition and belongs to the recording of a 2023 demonstration in Oaxaca.
This misinformation arises in the context of the current wave of violence that has persisted for more than a week in Culiacán, Sinaloa, and surrounding municipalities.
The disinformation video has more than a million views on X, formerly Twitter. It can be seen that it was recorded inside a car, from where they show a crowd standing on the median strip in the middle of an avenue.
Along with these images, cries of protest against President Andrés Manuel López Obrador are heard.
The video has a watermark with the name of the user who posted it, so we searched for it on TikTok. We found the original post and when we selected the audio it redirected us to an older post, which showed us that the audio is not recent nor does it correspond to the video.
The audio is from a protest in Oaxaca in 2023
The post from which the audio originates is from October 22, 2023 and indicates that it is from Oaxaca. The superimposed text reads “Xóchitl goes and the PJF—Federal Judicial Power— goes with her.”
We searched on Google to see if there was information about a protest in Oaxaca on that date and found that on that day the workers of the Judicial Power of various states of the country—including Oaxaca—held marches and mobilizations in protest of the disappearance of trusts of the Judicial Power.
So this was the context from which the audio of a crowd shouting “it was a mistake to vote for Obrador” arose.
The video has an audio superimposed that is from 2023 and has no relation to the current wave of violence in Sinaloa.

Regarding the video that was used in the disinformation post, we were unable to locate its source. But thanks to the hotel that can be seen, we identified that it is Avenida del Mar in Mazatlán.
In conclusion, the audio of the video was not recorded during protests in Mazatlán, but at a protest in Oaxaca in 2023.
