The seismograph located in Juan Aldama, Zacatecas, recorded an earthquake on the afternoon of September 19 with its epicenter in Simón Bolívar, Durango, 37 kilometers away.

According to information provided by Arturo Galindo Cabada, head of the State Coordination of Civil Protection (CEPC), the 4.6 magnitude earthquake is one of the most intense that has been recorded in Durango, which was felt by the inhabitants of the towns of Cuencamé, Guadalupe Victoria, Poanas, Simón Bolívar and San Juan de Guadalupe.

He pointed out that the earthquake generated fears among the inhabitants of the communities, however, in different tours it was confirmed that there was no material damage or human loss due to the natural phenomenon.

Although most of the State is located within zone A, where there is less record of earthquakes and those that do occur are of low intensity. The municipalities that felt the tremor on this occasion are part of zone B, with a greater presence of earthquakes.

He pointed out that in the municipalities of Tamazula, Topia, Canelas and Otáez there is a seismic swarm, which in 2009 caused a 5.1 magnitude earthquake that caused damage to homes and landslides.

Galindo Cabada mentioned that work is being done to prepare the inhabitants of Durango for these phenomena, pointing out that the problem in these scenarios is the lack of accustomedness of people to earthquakes in the state.
