Modus Operandi of Businessman’s Murder in Mérida Revealed; Perpetrators Were Hired Hitmen

New leads in the investigation of the businessman’s murder have uncovered the modus operandi of the killers, who are three hitmen from Tijuana.

The murder of Monterrey businessman José Ángel D.B., which occurred at Plaza Royal Campocielo in Mérida, has taken a significant turn with the revelation of new leads in the investigation, including the killers’ modus operandi.

According to initial reports, three hitmen from Tijuana, Baja California, were hired to carry out the contract killing. It is believed that the person who ordered the murder resides outside of Mexico, possibly in a Central American country.

Authorities have reported that two people are currently detained: a man and a woman who allegedly participated directly in the murder. Additionally, a third person located in Querétaro is under investigation, although their arrest has not yet been confirmed.

During the investigation, it was discovered that the detainees had criminal records in the United States and had arrived in Mérida approximately five months ago with the aim of getting close to their victim. It is believed that José Ángel D.B. was involved in money laundering activities, which may have motivated his murder due to mismanagement of funds or a financial conflict.

On the day of the crime, José Ángel D.B. was at a bar in the Las Américas neighborhood, where he was lured by a woman acting as a decoy. He was then taken into a vehicle where the other two hitmen intercepted him, shooting him eight times, with one bullet hitting him directly in the head. Although he was taken to a hospital, the businessman did not survive his injuries.

After the attack, the perpetrators attempted to flee but were located by the State Investigation Police (PEI). At that time, there was not enough evidence to detain them. However, days later, two of the suspects returned to Mérida to collect their belongings and were arrested for drug possession, which linked them to the crime.

Authorities are expected to issue search warrants and formalize the arrests of those involved in the coming hours, as the case continues to develop. As of Friday afternoon, authorities have not provided further official statements on the progress of the investigation.
