Rubén Oseguera González, alias “El Menchito” — one of the leaders of the powerful Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel — was found guilty on Friday of conspiracy and use of weapons by a federal jury in the United States, after a trial that lasted two weeks in the District of Columbia court, the Department of Justice reported in a statement.

The statement added that, according to evidence and documents shown at the trial, Oseguera González led for 10 years (between 2007 and 2017) an “international criminal organization responsible for importing large quantities of methamphetamine and cocaine from Mexico to the United States.”

“Oseguera González personally used firearms, destructive devices, and committed murders and kidnappings to control the drug trafficking organization,” said the statement, which identifies Oseguera González as the second in command of the violent cartel, one of the largest in Mexico.

Oseguera González will face a sentence of between 40 years in prison and life imprisonment. A judge is expected to hand down a sentence in January.

Oseguera González, who was arrested in 2015 in Mexico and extradited to the United States in 2020, is the son of Nemesio Oseguera Hernández, “El Mencho,” the alleged founder and leader of the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel and wanted by U.S. authorities for drug trafficking to the U.S., including fentanyl.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is offering a $10 million reward for information leading to his arrest.
