The state of Chihuahua was ranked with the highest rate of crime victims among the states in the north of the country at the end of López Obrador’s six-year term, according to the results of the National Survey of Victimization and Perception of Public Security (Envipe) 2024.

The official survey indicates in its latest measurement, released this week, a rate of 32.8 crime victims per 100,000 inhabitants in the state, in contrast to the rate recorded in 2018, which was 25 victims per 100,000 inhabitants.
The figure represents an increase of 28 percent in six years.

It is even the highest among the states on the northern border, followed by Sonora with 28.8, and Baja California, with a rate of 26.1 crime victims per 100,000 inhabitants.

Despite this increase, the Chihuahua population reported feeling less unsafe than six years ago.

At the end of López Obrador’s six-year term, the perception of insecurity in the state was reduced by 16.2 percent compared to the record obtained in 2018, according to the results of the Envipe 2024.

In the latest measurement released this week by Inegi, 67.7 percent of the population in the state considers that living in their federative entity is unsafe due to crime, however, it is lower than that of 2018, when the percentage was 80.9 percent.

Even the perception of insecurity in Chihuahua is the second with the greatest improvement recorded in the last year of the six-year term among the northern states of the country, only behind Coahuila.
The only states in the north of the country in which the insecurity index rose in the last six years were Baja California, with 1.3 percent, and Sonora, with 7.5 percent, the official survey indicates.

The spaces perceived as the most unsafe are the ATM on the public highway, with 75.6 percent; public transportation, with 65, and the street, with 61.8 percent.

In terms of trust in the authorities, it states that the best valued are the Navy, with 89.3 percent; the Army, with 86.7, and the National Guard, with 80.6 percent.

In addition, when presenting the results of the Envipe 2024, the Institute also noted that the crime incidence rate increased by 15.9 percent, to reach 33,267 crimes per 100,000 inhabitants.
