Russian reveals the things she can’t get used to in Mexico after moving: “I don’t understand”

A woman of Russian origin shared the things she doesn’t like about living in Mexico, especially because despite living in the country for more than 2 years, she still can’t get used to them.

When moving to a different country than the one where they were born, it is common for people to face cultural shocks due to the customs and ways of life of the new place they move to, as was the case of Nadin, who despite having been in Mexico for several years still notices the differences in the lifestyle that the inhabitants have.

It was through the social network TikTok that Nadin shared a video in which she gives her opinion regarding certain things that she has been able to locate in Mexico, specifically in the state of Puebla, where she has lived since she moved from Russia.

One of the main things that the Russian mentioned is the size of the sidewalks in Mexico, as she assured that they are so small that it is not possible for people to walk on them: “They are terrible (…) It is the country for cars and not pedestrians.”

In addition to the above, Nadin commented that she finds it strange the large number of cables that are placed on poles in the streets, since they are everywhere: “I don’t understand why there are so many cables up there.”

However, a large part of the cables that are placed in the streets and that hang from the poles allow the distribution of electric light to the homes in the colonies.

The third thing that the foreigner cannot get used to is the food in the streets, since she assured that the great majority is spicy and she cannot eat it: “I almost always eat at home because the food is spicy.”

Regarding public transport, the Russian mentioned that she does not find it completely safe, so she tries to use it as little as possible: “Public transport and taxis are not always safe, they can rob you.”

Finally, Nadin mentioned that she cannot get used to the size of the cockroaches, since she has found some large ones that she does not like: “I hate cockroaches.”

For their part, dozens of users did not hesitate to comment on the Russian video on social networks, who had similar opinions to Nadin.

“Change the area where you live, there are better and different places. Not all of Mexico is the same”; “The cables above, if they are below you could not walk”; “I am from Mexico and the sidewalks are a real pain, but they are improving them little by little”; “I have been living in Mexico for 40 years and I have not gotten used to these five things either”, “The insecurity is true, the infrastructure is pitiful”, among others.

Cultural differences between Mexico and Russia

Mexico and Russia have notable cultural differences. In Mexico, the culture is a mosaic of indigenous and Spanish influences, visible in the language, traditions and architecture. Festivities such as the Day of the Dead are fundamental and form part of the pre-Hispanic roots.

Mexican food, with dishes such as tacos and mole, is known for its use of ingredients such as corn, chili and avocado.

On the other hand, Russia has a cultural heritage that spans from the Tsarist era to the Soviet era. The great literary works of Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky stand out, as does the music of Tchaikovsky.

Holidays such as New Year and Orthodox Christmas are key celebrations. Gastronomy includes dishes such as borsch and caviar.
