Extortions continue to occur in Chetumal, where criminals seek to extract resources from people who fall into their clutches. According to the director of the Municipal Police of Othón P. Blanco, Manuel Santibañez, up to 10 cases of this type are recorded daily, and at least three people end up paying what is demanded.
“We have had between five to 10 cases of extortion daily. We are working to solve this problem by using technology and detecting the numbers, which often are not even from this state,” the official stated. He pointed out that in these cases, the public is asked to hang up immediately to avoid giving more information to the criminals operating behind the phones, thus preventing this crime.
