In commemoration of World Heart Day celebrated yesterday (September 29), this occasion marks a transcendental milestone for medicine in Mexico, especially for Jalisco, due to the university recognition of cardiology and related specialties, such as pediatric cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery and electrophysiology, among other subspecialties such as clinical cardiology. These obtained their university recognition, consolidating their role as pillars in the country’s medical care.
During these five decades, these disciplines have been key in the training of specialists and in cutting-edge research for the care of the heart and cardiovascular system.
They seek to guarantee the economic stability of caregivers
The Old Civil Hospital of Guadalajara Fray Antonio Alcalde, the National Medical Center of the West of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), the Regional Military Hospital of Guadalajara, the Regional Hospital Dr. Valentín Gómez Farías of the Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers (ISSSTE), the Jalisco Ministry of Health, and the Institute of Cardiovascular Health have been pillars of cardiology in the region. Also, the Association of Private Hospitals of Jalisco has contributed to this joint effort.
Half a century of scientific advances, training of specialists and dedication to saving lives has allowed these disciplines not only to evolve, but to become national and international references. This anniversary invites us to reflect on the impact of these programs on the cardiovascular health of Mexicans and the legacy they continue to build.
Highly trained doctors have been trained who have contributed to improving the quality of life of thousands of patients throughout the country, carrying out innovative treatments and procedures that save lives. Special attention and training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) has been essential to saving lives. In this regard, we recognize the work of the University of Guadalajara, health institutions and private hospitals that have been an essential part of the advancement of these specialties. We renew our commitment to quality medical education and clinical excellence.
