Explosion at Mayakoba Hotel in Playa del Carmen Leaves One Dead and Several Injured

A tragic incident occurred in Mayakoba, resulting in the death of a worker identified as M. A. B., who suffered severe burns on 90% of his body due to a gas explosion at the Rosewood hotel complex.

The deceased was working with other colleagues in a construction area of the ultra-luxury resort in Mayakoba when the LP gas explosion occurred on Monday afternoon.

Unfortunately, the worker passed away early Tuesday morning, while four other people were injured in the explosion at a condominium in Ciudad Mayakoba.

The victim died in the intensive care unit of IMSS Bienestar Number 18 today around 5:15 a.m.

Other workers also suffered burns on most of their bodies.

The man died from second and third-degree burns caused by the gas explosion on Monday afternoon. He was transferred to IMSS Unit Number 18, located in the Villamar II neighborhood, where the social worker reported the incident to the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE).

Currently, Civil Protection and Fire Department personnel are investigating the causes of the incident, which has claimed one life. Initial reports suggest it was a flash fire caused by a suspected accumulation of butane gas in one of the condominiums on Loba de Mar Street.
