Black Wednesday

One of the peak points of insecurity in September occurred on the 18th, with a series of violent acts that led to the closure of some businesses, tire punctures on city roads, vehicle fires, and misinformation spread through social media, causing panic among Villahermosa residents.

At noon, the first report was recorded about a robbery of customers withdrawing money from ATMs in the mentioned plaza, leading to an intense police mobilization in the area, patrolling the streets of the Lagunas I, II, and III neighborhoods, as well as the surrounding area.

Vandalism was also reported on Villahermosa’s roads, with tire punctures appearing on the road to Cárdenas, taking several vehicles out of circulation and causing heavy traffic on the city’s Periférico due to its proximity to the area. The same happened on the Villahermosa-Frontera highway, where several motorists were stranded.

In Naranjo Street, in the Gaviotas Sur neighborhood, residents recorded a vehicle fire that caused moments of panic due to the uncertainty of the flames spreading; similarly, on 27 de Febrero Street, near the Plaza de Toros, a compact car was set on fire.

Due to these situations, various businesses closed their shutters, including Monterrey and Sánchez grocery stores, as well as several near the Pino Suárez market, such as those on Primavera Street, to prevent potential robberies.

The wave of violence caused uncertainty in the commerce and services sector, as well as school absenteeism.

The Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) acknowledged the criminal acts that occurred that day, highlighting that there were seven simultaneous attacks. It confirmed:

– Robbery of account holders

– Vehicle thefts

– 2 vehicles set on fire

– 7 store robberies

– 1 motorcycle theft

– 12 tire punctures

– 3 threatening messages: 2 posters and 1 banner

Regarding the locations where these criminal acts took place, the agency reported that they occurred in the Atasta, Tamulté de las Barrancas, Carrizal, Gaviotas Norte, Indeco, Brisas del Carrizal neighborhood, and Villa Ocuiltzapotlán.
