Campeche, National Embarrassment for Its Roads and Politicians

Campeche is not only national shame for the behavior of its politicians but also for its roads, accused Javier Bello Avila, president of AC Social Control, in his opinion on what was published in the Statistical Yearbook of Collisions in Federal Highways 2023, which states that Campeche’s federal highways are the worst in the country.

Unfortunately, during Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s administration, the federal highways were abandoned and do not say the ones under the responsibility of Layda Sansores Sanromán’s government, said Bello Avila.

For Bello Avila practically all the money went to the Maya Train and Dos Bocas Refinery, and little was done on federal projects in Campeche.

Not even a drop of oil was paid to the oil companies, so the state economy is down on its luck. “The last promise made by the Federal Government was that the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA), responsible for the Maya Train, would take care of repairing federal highways 180 and 186 Later the Governor said that the State Government would also do so.

According to the Statistical Yearbook of Collisions in Federal Highways 2023, the federal roads in the worst condition and abandoned are those in Campeche a state governed by Layda Sansores Sanromán.

The document elaborated by the same Infrastructure Communications and Transportation Secretariat (SICT) states that in 2023 there were 42 deaths and ended Campeche as the entity with the most deaths on the Peninsula.

It is inevitable for the Campechan population to turn around and look at Sansores Sanromán as a leader who does not intervene so that the Federation invests in its rehabilitation.

In general, during last year, Campeche registered 214 collisions of which 82 were with victims many of whom were fatal. Just on August 6 of this present year, Cambio22 reported that 70% of the federal highways in Campeche are in poor physical condition according to information from SICT.

Eduardo Juan Guerrero Valdez, head of SICT mentioned that by presidential order the maintenance of federal roads will be handled by the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA), which should begin as soon as possible to start repairing the highways especially in areas where damage is attributed to the Maya Train works.

He recognized that the representation of SICT in Campeche acknowledged that 70% of its 1,476 kilometers of federal roads are in poor condition. To this end since the maintenance and repair of federal roads is a responsibility of SICT formerly SCT agreements were taken with SEDENA explained Guerrero Valdez.

Regarding future highway planning work has already been done with the General Directorate of Road Conservation which belongs to the Infrastructure Subsecretariat on the 2025 budget.
