Durango has a Rock Garden in the middle of the mountains; have you seen it?

Nestled in the Sierra Madre Occidental in Durango is a natural park called Mexiquillo, a favorite for many to enjoy with family, partner or friends, and be part of their adventures and witness their movie-like scenes! Mexiquillo is undoubtedly an authentic paradise that conquers the hearts of those looking for an unforgettable getaway.

At the same time, in this nature sanctuary there is another space called the Stone Garden, a large space with multiple rocks, and precisely for that reason its name.

“Stone Garden, an area known for its rock formations that reach more than eight meters in height and where you can explore them by rappelling or climbing,” was written from the Facebook account of Turismo Durango, where this other Durango wonder was boasted.

According to its history, these enormous and imposing stones resulted from the magma that covered this area millions of years ago. They say that arriving at this place is like being transported to another world.

“According to experts, its history dates back millions of years, when the earth was covered with magma. But the result of its formations finds its explanation in the erosion of the wind, which was responsible for polishing each monolith, which are explored by climbing or rappelling,” explains the State Government’s Tourism Secretariat on its platforms.

You would have to travel back in time, specifically to prehistory, to understand how this place was formed, which today is part of Durango tourism.

It is known that these formations are composed of igneous rock and rhyolite, although in less quantity. You can also marvel at some basalt and plutonic rock formations.

Location: You can get to Mexiquillo by taking the Durango-Mazatlán highway, towards La Ciudad, the town of Pueblo Nuevo; it is located at kilometer 145.
