Attempted Knife Assault Reported on “Va y Ven” Bus in Mérida

A young man was injured by a suspect attempting to steal his backpack, which contained a laptop.

A young man, around 20 years old, was attacked with a knife by an alleged assailant while traveling on a “Va y Ven” public transport bus in Mérida.

According to information circulating on social media, the incident occurred this Wednesday when a man boarded the “Va y Ven” bus. While passing through the Chuburná de Hidalgo neighborhood, he threatened a young passenger with a knife, attempting to snatch his backpack, which contained a laptop.

The assailant struggled with the young man and injured him near the mouth, causing a wound. The attacker then got off the bus and fled in an unknown direction.

Following the assault, the victim called the emergency services at 911. Agents from the Public Security Secretariat (SSP) and paramedics arrived, provided first aid, and later transported him to a hospital for specialized medical care.

Meanwhile, SSP police initiated a search operation to locate the assailant. As of now, it is unknown if the suspect has been apprehended.
