64 Temporary Shelters Activated in Mérida Due to Hurricane Milton

The mayor of Mérida informed that 64 shelters have been set up in the municipality to accommodate 6,000 citizens in response to the impacts of Hurricane Milton.

Mayor Cecilia Patrón Laviada announced that the City Council has 64 shelters ready to accommodate up to 6,000 people in case of emergency, due to the proximity of Hurricane Milton, which is expected to reach the Yucatecan capital around 10 PM.

In a press conference, the mayor detailed that the Municipal Civil Protection Committee will be installed at noon, which will constantly monitor the evolution of the meteorological phenomenon. “We are taking all necessary measures to protect citizens and provide them with the support they need,” said Patrón Laviada.

Additionally, instructions have been given to remove billboards and advertisements that could pose a danger by becoming projectiles in strong wind gusts.

The first areas expected to be affected are the northeastern commissaries of Mérida, where the hurricane’s impact will be strongest. Local authorities urge the population to stay informed and follow Civil Protection’s recommendations to ensure their safety.

Weather monitoring and preventive actions continue, and residents of Mérida are advised to stay tuned to official reports in the coming hours.
