Celestún and Sisal, the Most Affected Municipalities by Hurricane Milton

After Hurricane Milton, which was downgraded to Category 4, the damage assessment identifies that the municipalities of Sisal and Celestún suffered the most, with flooding, fallen trees, and no phone network.

According to reports from the Civil Protection of the State of Yucatán, in the municipality of Celestún, some fallen poles and lines were reported, and the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) is working on restoring electricity.

In this municipality, there is currently no cell phone service, and the main entrance is affected by flooding.

In the case of Sisal, the damage was such that the roof of the softball field stands and some palapas were reported to have fallen.

More than a thousand people from El Cuyo, Río Lagartos, and Las Coloradas were relocated to various shelters.

The governor of Yucatán, Joaquín Díaz Mena, informed that the Manuel Crescencio Rejón International Airport in Mérida is preparing to reopen its operations starting at 9:00 AM.

The CFE reported that around 8,000 people were affected by power outages, although it assures that 40 percent of the service has already been restored.

The National Water Commission (Conagua) communicated that Milton has weakened to a Category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale, with sustained winds of 250 km/h and gusts of 280 km/h. It is located 85 km north-northwest of Dzilam and 118 km west-northwest of Río Lagartos.
