Guanajuato is a failed development model, says Claudia Sheinbaum

President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo described the development model of the state of Guanajuato, governed by the National Action Party (PAN) for more than 30 years, as a failure on Tuesday.

The president attributed this to the fact that the state has the highest rate of violence today.

“Guanajuato is, by far, the state with the highest number of homicides, but it is also the state with the most young people with addictions. León, Guanajuato, incredibly, is the municipality with the highest number of poor people in the country, it is the state where the average salary is less than the minimum wage. So, evidently, there is a development model that failed,” the president stressed.

“The Ministry of the Interior is going to help us in Guanajuato so that in the areas with the highest crime rate, together with prevention, with the Ministry of Labor and other ministries, they go fully to support the population and be able to expand the capacities to rescue young people from criminal groups or from violence or addictions, because Guanajuato is the state in the Republic with the highest number of addictions.”

President Sheinbaum reported that as part of her government’s total support for Guanajuato, Omar García Harfuch, Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), will meet with Libia García, the state’s PAN governor.

She also hinted at a criticism of the work of the state’s attorney general, Carlos Zamarripa, who has already submitted his resignation to leave office on the last day of 2024, after 15 years of holding it.

“You know all the problems of the prosecutor; It seems that it will stay until January, but the secretary will talk to the governor about the issue of security in Guanajuato, but we will provide comprehensive support,” the governor insisted.
