Calaveras Cultural Festival 2024: A Celebration that Transforms Aguascalientes

Aguascalientes is preparing to host one of its most emblematic celebrations, the 2024 “José Guadalupe Posada” Calaveras Cultural Festival, which in its 30th edition will take place from October 26 to November 3. This festival not only honors Mexican art and traditions, but also boosts the economy and tourism in the region. With an estimate of more than 375 thousand visitors and an economic impact of more than 370 million pesos, this event is positioned as the second most important in the state.

During the official presentation, led by Aurora Jiménez Esquivel, President of the State DIF, representing Governor Tere Jiménez, the government’s effort to improve this festival every year was highlighted, offering an enriched and accessible cultural experience for all families. With more than 600 activities, 90% of them free, the festival promises to be an inclusive and diverse space that will promote the cultural roots of Aguascalientes.

More than 375 thousand visitors are expected to arrive and an economic impact of more than 370 million pesos, consolidating the festival as the second most important tourist and cultural event in Aguascalientes.

Venues and Activities for the Entire Family

San Marcos Island will be one of the main stages, offering a wide variety of activities from noon to 10 at night. Among the most outstanding events are the exhibition of Living Altars, the Children’s Pavilion with workshops for the little ones, live music, dance and theater. In addition, there will be a Made in Aguascalientes Pavilion, where local products can be purchased, and a DIF pavilion with activities specially designed for seniors and children.

Among the novelties of this edition is the Second National Danzón Meeting, which will bring together participants from all over the country to showcase their skills in this iconic dance. In addition, sports will also have its place with the Indoor Archery Tournament of Skulls and the Aguascalientes Marathon, which will be held on October 26.

Unmissable Events: Skull Parade and Concerts

One of the most anticipated events is the Skull Parade, scheduled for November 2 at 9 pm, where the main streets of the Historic Center will be filled with color and tradition. Added to this are two concerts at the Palenque de la Feria: on November 1 with the performances of Julio Preciado and Jorge Medina, and on November 2 with Edén Muñoz.

Bullfighting fans will also find their space in the Corrida de Calaveras, on November 2 at the Monumental Bullring, with the participation of great figures such as Fermín Espinosa “Armillita IV” and Diego Sánchez.

A Festival for All Municipalities

In addition to the activities in the capital, the festival extends to all the municipalities of Aguascalientes, bringing music, dance and tradition to every corner of the state. From altars in the Houses of Culture to shows in the Patio de las Jacarandas and the Museum of Death, each space will offer a unique window into the culture of the region.

This 30th anniversary of the Calaveras Cultural Festival promises to be an unforgettable celebration that not only pays tribute to the work of José Guadalupe Posada, but reaffirms Aguascalientes as a cultural reference in the country.
