The Integral Port Administration of Quintana Roo (APIQROO) reports that from January 1 to September 30 of this year, the port of Cozumel registered the arrival of 916 cruise ships, which represents a 9% increase compared to the same period in 2023. Additionally, the port of Cozumel welcomed 3,406,734 cruise passengers, implying a 13.5% increase compared to 2023, when 3,001,702 passengers were recorded, according to APIQROO head Vagner Elbiorn Vega.

He stated that in Cozumel, APIQROO closed its records with 1,156 cruise ships and 4,089,054 passengers. For 2024, it is expected that the island will host 1,273 cruise ships and a total of 4,566,115 passengers, establishing itself as one of the essential points of interest in the Mexican Caribbean.

The APIQROO representative expressed that through the New Agreement for the Welfare and Development of Quintana Roo, promoted by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa, the New Era of Tourism will facilitate shared prosperity reaching all households.

“This approach aims to boost economic growth and ensure that the benefits of tourism development are distributed among all industry participants,” he stated.

Finally, Vagner Elbiorn mentioned that APIQROO has four main routes to enhance the economy and well-being of people in Cozumel, such as cruises, routes, ferries, and nautical tourism (smaller tourist vessels).
