Estefanía Mercado promotes project to renovate Quinta Avenida in Playa del Carmen

With the aim of combining visions to dignify the image of Quinta Avenida and, thereby, promote it internationally along with other tourist attractions of the destination, the municipal president of Solidaridad, Estefanía Mercado, led a tour of the area this morning, accompanied by business leaders and members of her cabinet.

“I want you to know that in this administration we will govern with open doors. It is about working as a team with the business sector to move forward with our beloved Quinta Avenida, which is an icon of Playa del Carmen and what it currently shows is not what we want to sell at tourist fairs,” she said.

In this context, the Mayor acknowledged the importance of working in coordination with the private sector, as this sector sees every problem as an opportunity for development.

Estefanía Mercado explained that this tour allowed them to identify the main problems of the touristy Quinta Avenida, in order to establish a joint project for its improvement, such as standardizing the image to create its own identity, which will help tackle visual pollution.

“We have great challenges ahead. What follows now, after this field meeting, is to sit down and work out the details, make agreements, and designate responsible parties for each area. I want you to know that all entrepreneurs are welcome in this government and that they will have open doors 24/7,” she indicated.

The Municipal President announced that these types of teamwork dynamics will be repeated, as there are more challenges to address in other parts of the city besides Quinta Avenida. “It is important for entrepreneurs to get involved not only in the economic sector but also in the social part, so it will be essential to include the citizens,” she added.

“If we manage to work hand in hand, I am sure that great successes will come, not for my government, but for Solidaridad in general,” she emphasized.

Some problems raised by entrepreneurs and merchants are related to changes in land use, sidewalk invasions, damaged cobblestones and planters, and uncovered registers.

They also asked Estefanía Mercado to organize a schedule within the municipality’s tourism promotion activities that includes the dissemination of cultural activities and festivities such as the Day of the Dead.

The tour was attended by representatives of Canirac, Canaco, the Association of Small Hotels, the Association of Hotels of the Riviera Maya, and the colleges of Architects and Engineers, among other business sectors.

Meanwhile, from the Government of Solidaridad, the heads of Tourism, Urban Development, Public Safety, Economic Development, Inspection, Commerce, Public Services, Public Works, and the DIF, as well as members of the City Council, participated.
