Day of the Dead is one of the most significant and anticipated dates for Mexicans. Since October, events have been organized inspired by this great celebration declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
This varied program includes a concert of the movie Coco, which was a great worldwide boom after its premiere in 2017. It is the immersive experience ‘Coco in concert: A party to remember’, which returns to Mexico City after a couple of presentations last year.
What is the Coco in concert show like?
‘Coco in concert: A party to remember’ is an immersive experience themed around the famous Disney movie to celebrate the Day of the Dead.
The musical direction is by maestro Chacho Gaytán and the creative and artistic direction is in the hands of Felipe Fernández del Paso, a set designer, writer and director of theatre and film, nominated for an Oscar for best production design for the film ‘Frida’ in 2003 and who directed the show Coco at the Hollywood Bowl in 2018.
The stage will be huge, with huge screens with projections of altars, fantastic images and, of course, the film itself.
Several artists will perform the most emblematic songs from the film, such as ‘Un poco loco’, ‘El corrido de Miguel Rivera’ or ‘Recuérdame’, the latter winner of the Oscar for best original song.
So far, the confirmed artists are Natalia Lafourcade, Mario Bautista, Camila Fernández, Sofia Garza, Angélica Vale and the National Folkloric Ballet of Mexico of Silvia Lozano, who will perform accompanied by a live orchestra.
There will be an interactive offering, a parade of fluorescent alebrijes and other seasonal and popular Mexican culture characters.
When will the Coco in Concert show be?
‘Coco in Concert: A Party to Remember’ will take place next Saturday, November 2, at 7:00 p.m. It will last between 3 and 4 hours.
The event is at the Plaza de Toros ‘La México’, at Calzada Augusto Rodin 130, Ciudad de los Deportes neighborhood, Benito Juárez Municipality.
