Colombian family who traveled to Cancun on vacation is missing in Mexico

Familia colombiana que viajó a Cancún de vacaciones está desaparecida en México

A Colombian family who took advantage of the school break to spend a few days in Cancun on vacation has been missing for more than 72 hours.

What was planned as a tourist trip for a married couple and their small son has become a distressing nightmare for their relatives in the municipality of Galapa, Atlántico, where they live.

There has been no news of Ailin Pautt, her husband Edwin Fernando Núñez and their one-year-old baby for three days, since they were traveling by land from the Cancun resort to Mexico City.

Due to alleged irregularities in the election of representatives, the PGN is investigating the vice-rector of the Universidad Popular del Cesar
From Atlántico, the family reported that on October 4 they left for Mexico, arriving at their destination without incident. However, the couple decided to travel from Cancun to Mexico City with the purpose of visiting the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe to entrust the health of their son, who has presented serious respiratory complications.

It was on that trip where the family in Atlántico lost track of their loved ones, after Ailian informed them that the vehicle they were traveling in was stopped at a National Guard checkpoint in Puebla.

“She sent us the photo of the agents and told us that they had stopped them and made them get out of the car. Then, she did not respond again,” said a sister of the woman.

Two days later, without being able to communicate, the family in Colombia received a call from Mexico in which they were informed that they were detained at an immigration point in Mexico City and that they had to pay a large sum of money. “We asked where they were being held, but they did not give us any more information.”

The Pautt family is urgently calling on the Colombian authorities, the Foreign Ministry and the Attorney General’s Office to help them find the whereabouts of their loved ones so they can return safely.
