Tithes stolen from a church in Cabo San Lucas

They stole money from the piggy bank of the “Santa María de Guadalupe” church, where the parishioners deposit their tithes. They forced the lock on the door of the office where it is kept; they also tried to take a speaker and open the tabernacle.

“With deep sadness and regret we address the people of God who make pilgrimage in our parish, to inform them about a regrettable event that occurred in our parish temple. In the early hours of today, unscrupulous people entered our facilities and stole the money from the piggy bank, as well as tried to take the speaker that is on the side of the ambo (where the reading is read), they forced the door of the parish office and, most sadly, they forced the tabernacle open.”

This was announced by Basilio León, president of the parish committee of the church, which is located in the Las Palma neighborhood, in Cabo San Lucas. The public security authorities attended to the report and carry out the corresponding investigations to help find the person who stole the money.

He said that it is sad and painful how the Catholic community makes known this act of vandalism and theft that attacks the temple, which is not only a place of worship, but also a spiritual refuge, a space of comfort and encounter with God for all believers.

He pointed out that beyond the material, it is that they desecrate the house of peace, where they go to pray, for this reason, he said that he calls on all members of the parish to remain united in prayer and spiritual strength.

“I invite you to pray to God for the conversion of those who committed this act, so that they find the path of justice and repentance, since faith in God and the union of our community are stronger than any adversity.

The parish priest Salvador Gutiérrez Alvarado and the vicar Jorge Arturo Navarro, invited parishioners to join in prayer for world peace, and especially for those lost sheep so that they return to the path of good, in the faith of Jesus Christ for their salvation.

In Cabo San Lucas, robberies had already occurred in religious temples, among which is the parish of San Lucas Evangelista where they even stole the tabernacle and took the ciborium (a gold-colored metal container used to reserve and distribute the Eucharist in churches) this was stolen along with the consecrated hosts.
