Olinia will be the 100% Mexican electric car that could be produced in the state of Sonora.
It should be remembered that, initially, this project was announced by Claudia Sheinbaum, during her first speech as president in the capital’s Zócalo.
It was this Tuesday, during her morning press conference, where the president pointed out that the entity is emerging as one of the possible locations for its manufacture and production, to enhance the Sonora Plan.
In light of this, Alfonso Durazo, governor of the state, thanked the president for considering Sonora to install the Olinia production center.
What do we know about Olinia?
As part of the Technological Development Program for Innovation, this initiative will be part of Mexico’s efforts to join the global trend of sustainable mobility and clean technologies.
Olinia means “to move” in Nahuatl and will be designed by young Mexicans. In addition, the car would compete in the market against models such as those developed by Tesla and BYD.
In fact, it has been revealed that the design would be inspired by compact vehicles created in India and China.
Although it has not been officially stated what its cost will be, it is expected to have a price below 500 thousand pesos.
It was the 34th commitment presented during the president’s first speech and, in addition to generating national technology, it seeks to provide opportunities to young Mexican professionals.
“We will produce the Olinia, a small, popular, 100% electric car, 100% designed by young Mexican men and women and assembled entirely in our country.”
Will the Olinia be produced in Sonora?
At the moment, the state of Sonora is emerging as one of the places where the electric car production center will be located.
This could boost the Sonora Sustainable Energy Plan, as acknowledged by Governor Alfonso Durazo, although, so far, it has not been officially announced where the Olinia will be manufactured.
