
Amazon reported that since 2015 it has invested more than 110 billion pesos in Mexico, of which it has allocated 28 billion last year alone.
According to its Economic Impact Report in Mexico, the company owned by Jeff Bezos currently generates more than 50 thousand jobs in the country, 10,000 direct and more than 40,000 indirect.
“These jobs cover key sectors such as logistics, construction, electronic commerce, technological production, investment in Artificial Intelligence and cloud services, which, in turn, drives the growth of various communities,” according to the document.
The company said that during 2024, the company has also forged commitments to boost the local economy in different states of the country.
“At the beginning of 2024, Amazon announced the opening of a new Shipping Center in Apodaca, Nuevo León with a size equivalent to 6 professional soccer fields and a maximum capacity of approximately 900,000 items.
“In addition, during the last quarter of 2024, Amazon expands its presence in Jalisco with a second Shipping Center in this state. This center has dimensions equivalent to 5.2 professional soccer fields and a maximum capacity of approximately 750,000 items, which will generate more than 2,000 jobs in the locality,” it detailed in a statement.
In the report, Amazon specified that it has almost 27 thousand sellers, which represents an increase of 52% compared to the previous year, and that together they offer more than 5 million products in the store.
“So far in 2024, Amazon has trained more than 11,000 Mexican entrepreneurs and small business owners through nearly 200 webinars and events, offering hundreds of hours of educational content and activities in collaboration with state and local governments and small business accelerators to grow their businesses and reach new customers both in the country and around the world,” he added.
In delivery operations, the company mentioned that it collaborates with thousands of suppliers and entrepreneurs in an interconnected network of transportation, logistics sites, and technologies that allow faster delivery of packages.
“Through last-mile programs such as Hub Delivery, Amazon Flex, and Amazon Seliver Service Partners (DSP), Amazon has contributed to the creation of indirect jobs in Mexico,” he said.
Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video local teams have been working in Mexico since 2018, with more than 20 local production companies and since its launch, Amazon MGM Studios has generated more than 6,000 direct and indirect jobs with the production of more than 50 local original titles, according to the report.
Since 2017, according to the document, Amazon Web Services (AWS) has trained 500,000 people in cloud skills in Mexico, and in February 2024, the area announced its plans to invest more than 85 billion pesos in Mexico over the next 15 years.
