In Narcomantas, Criminals Threaten War Against the Government of Tabasco

Banners with threats to the government of Tabasco appeared early Thursday morning on pedestrian bridges in the Indeco neighborhood of Villahermosa.

Amid the climate of insecurity that the state is experiencing following the ratification of Brigadier General Víctor Hugo Chávez Martínez as head of Security and Citizen Protection, messages began circulating on social media in recent hours, warning the civilian population of a “war” by organized crime against state authorities.

The military officer was appointed police chief on February 2 during the interim government of Carlos Manuel Merino Campos and was confirmed in his position by Governor Javier May Rodríguez, who took office on Friday, October 4.

Banners against the official started appearing months ago, and at the beginning of the new government, the demand from criminal groups for his removal resurfaced.

On Wednesday, a group of residents protested in front of the Government Palace, demanding the “removal” of Chávez Martínez, in what was the first protest of this kind in Tabasco.

It was on pedestrian bridges in the Indeco neighborhood where banners with threatening texts were hung this Thursday.

Images of the writings warning of criminal acts were shared on digital platforms.

The publications have multiplied on instant messaging applications.

In one of the messages, the May government is warned about the start of a “war” against the police.

“The war against you begins, you don’t want peace in the state, so here it goes,” reads one of the images hung on a pedestrian bridge.
