They will register the “Playa del Carmen” brand for tourism promotion

The government of Solidaridad only has two trademarks in its favor: “Inter Playa del Carmen” and “Hecho en Playa del Carmen.”

The Government of Solidaridad will process the registration of the brand with the name “Playa del Carmen,” with which they plan to join the promotion of the city at tourism fairs.

Estefanía Mercado Asencio, president of Solidaridad, reported that this is the plan to bring stronger promotion of the city to the various fairs they will attend during this triennium.

“We are going to do it ourselves, this administration will do it through the Cabildo, where we will relaunch the brand and of course the registration is very important,” said the mayor.

According to data from the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI), there are two registrations of the brand with the simple name “Playa del Carmen,” which are in the name of the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council.

The concession for the use of the name along with the image of the Playa del Carmen brand dates back to 2021 and 2022. The Council can use them until 2032 for the city’s tourism promotion through various means.

According to Estefanía Mercado, they are also seeking a registration, so the scope of the use of the brand may include other activities related to the promotion of the city to complement the Riviera Maya.

“At tourism fairs, Playa del Carmen will be showcased. We are Playa del Carmen, we all consider ourselves ‘playenses’ and we will strengthen the brand to attract global tourism, which is Playa del Carmen,” added Mercado Asencio.

Currently, there are 142 trademark registrations that use the name “Playa del Carmen,” according to IMPI data.

Not all of these concessions for the use of the name of this locality are related to tourism promotion; they also involve businesses from various economic activities in the country.
