US Authorities and Tulum Tourism Officials Review Visitor Information

They addressed key topics in promoting the ‘Guest Assist’ app and the use of official documents. Amber Baskette, Minister Counselor for Consular Affairs at the US Embassy in Mexico, and her team met with the General Directorate of Tourism Tulum at the C.I.T.A.E.M offices, where they discussed key topics in promoting the Guest Assist app and disseminating essential information for tourists, such as the proper use of official documents and tips for a safe trip.

Carla Patricia Andrade Piedras, General Director of Tourism and Economy, said that they discussed security issues, recommendations to their citizens about the prohibition and crime of buying, selling, and consuming drugs.

She noted that they also conveyed the advice not to leave identifications in businesses such as car, motorcycle, and bicycle rentals to avoid problems with their documentation.

She added that they will extend communication much more extensively with embassies and consulates so that they can have immediate and direct access to information. Additionally, she highlighted an incident in the coastal area where a worker lost his life, causing speculation of a supposed violent act when the reality was a death due to health problems.

She explained that they also discussed the misinformation that arises around these events, which generate significant emergency and police mobilization, where media outlets publish incorrect events.

“This direct communication channel with the embassies allows for certainty and tranquility to avoid distrust and false information, so they can inform their citizens about the reality and thus avoid warning issues with countries like the United States,” she stated.
