70% of Mazatlán will be illuminated with new LED equipment with an investment of 95 million pesos

Alcalde de Mazatlán renovará alumbrado público en el puerto sinaloense

At the end of the current municipal administration, the Public Lighting Department will replace 70 percent of the old lamps with LED equipment, that is, in 270 of the 400 localities in Mazatlán, including neighborhoods, subdivisions and towns.

Interviewed during a visit to a warehouse of the supplier of the new LED equipment in the Urías neighborhood, Mayor Edgar González Zataráin said that during his administration they invested around 95 million pesos in the purchase of the lamps, in addition to the accessories and wiring.

“We are going to install at least a thousand more between now and October 31, and there will be about 2 thousand lamps in stock, so that we can continue, while a new tender is made, if the new administration so decides, that is, more purchases. With this we will be reaching just 70 percent of the city.”

He mentioned that, although they lost 90 days in a bidding process because the winning company did not present a document, they did manage to renew 100 percent of the lighting in the rural area, and are currently working in colonies such as Infonavit Playas, Prados Dorados and Terranova.

Likewise, the mayor of Mazatlán regretted that the theft of wiring and other accessories continues in colonies that are next to invasions, as well as in settlements on the outskirts, however, he added that little by little they have been mitigating this crime.

“There, in coordination with Public Security, many people have been arrested. Last week they arrested one in Olas Altas, who was from La Montuosa, he had us ‘lazarus’, because he frequently turned off that area, like another who also turned off here on Leonismo Avenue, by UAS, Leonismo and Reforma, they often turned off our lights there, but those have already stopped.”

González Zataráin said that the savings in electricity consumption will not be reflected until the next administration, thanks to the renewal of old equipment, and added that this could be up to 3 million pesos per month.
