Google Releases Highly Anticipated Google Maps Feature, Way Too Many Disappointed Users

Google Maps has recently introduced several new features, some of which were long overdue. This has led many users to switch from Waze to Google’s main navigation app. Notable additions include incident reporting for Android Auto and CarPlay, a new speedometer feature now widely available, and improved lane guidance. These enhancements make Google Maps more appealing.

However, the speedometer feature has disappointed many users as it often doesn’t work as expected, sometimes disappearing without explanation.

Users have long awaited a speedometer in Google Maps. Previously, on CarPlay, users could only see the speed limit for the road they were on. The update now displays the current speed limit alongside real-time speed data, allowing users to see their speed and whether they are exceeding the limit.

In recent days, readers have reported that the speedometer feels incomplete. For some, it doesn’t appear at all, while for others, it disappears shortly after appearing. No clear pattern has emerged to explain this behavior, but many users have reported similar issues online.

One user noted that the speedometer disappears after using Google Maps for about a minute, often without interacting with the app. Another mentioned that the speed information vanishes after switching apps or swiping down on their iPhone screen. The speedometer only returns after restarting the app and reconfiguring navigation.

On Google’s forums, a user reported that the speedometer is removed when they receive a road hazard notification. Once the alert expires, the speedometer doesn’t return, and the only solution is to restart Google Maps.

Google has not yet addressed these issues, leaving users frustrated, especially since they have waited years for this feature. Now that it’s available, it isn’t working correctly on their devices.

Currently, the only way to resolve these speedometer issues is to restart the app whenever the bug occurs. Alternatively, users can switch to Waze, where the speedometer works correctly alongside the current speed limit, making it easier to monitor their speed. Waze is available on all platforms, including Android Auto and CarPlay.
