Chaos in the CDMX Metro: Failures spark outrage among users

This Wednesday, October 16, 2024, the Mexico City Metro (CDMX), which also connects with parts of the State of Mexico (Edomex), presents various problems that have generated discomfort among users due to failures on several lines and significant delays.

Below is a detailed summary of the problems, closed stations, and other important aspects to plan your trip.

Line 5 fails

A train breakdown was reported, causing temporary delays. However, the Collective Transportation System (STC) has reported that circulation has been expedited after removing the train for review. Authorities recommend following the instructions of the staff, such as allowing the doors to close freely and getting off the car before entering.

Line 3 like a turtle

Users have expressed their frustration at the slowness of the service, describing it “like a turtle.” However, the Metro reports that there are no technical failures and that the delays are due to the high influx of passengers during rush hour. The dispatch of empty trains to the busiest stations has been coordinated to alleviate demand.

Line B, train breaks down

A train was withdrawn for inspection, causing delays. The STC reports that the trains have already been sped up after the intervention.

Line 7, another train failed

As on other lines, a train was withdrawn for inspection, causing delays in service. The STC has assured that circulation has already been normalized, but users are furious.

Stations closed on Line 1

Seven stations on Line 1 remain closed due to modernization work on the Observatorio-Cuauhtémoc section. The affected stations are:

Observatorio
Tacubaya
Juanacatlán
Chapultepec
Sevilla
Insurgentes
Cuauhtémoc

Line 1 service is only available on the Pantitlán-Balderas section, and an exact reopening date has not been confirmed, although the works are expected to be completed by the end of this year.

FUTURE CLOSURE ON LINE 3

Once the remodeling work on Line 1 is completed, Line 3, which runs from Indios Verdes to Universidad, is expected to close for maintenance work.
