These expenses are distributed among city tours, mainly the Malecón, visits to various attractions, among others.
The port of Mazatlán is one of the key destinations on the Mexican Pacific route for cruise tourism, and this segment represents a significant economic impact for the city and the rural area.
Data
According to data provided by the Secretariat of Economic Development, Tourism, and Fisheries of Mazatlán, the average expenditure per passenger disembarking at the port is estimated at $70.
This expenditure is mainly distributed among city tours, visits to the Historic Center, the Gran Acuario Mar de Cortés, museums, shopping at local stores, and dining at restaurants and bars in the area.
Additionally, rural tourism has gained relevance among cruise passengers, who choose to explore nearby communities such as La Noria and El Quelite. These activities help diversify the tourist offer, promote the local economy, and generate employment.
High season
It is important to highlight that Mazatlán is currently in the high cruise season, which remains active until the spring of 2025, typically ending between April and May, depending on the routes of the shipping companies and market conditions.
Just yesterday, Mazatlán received the Ruby Princess cruise ship, with a total of 2,935 passengers and 1,159 crew members. This large vessel brought a significant influx of cruise tourism. For the rest of the month, the arrival of the Carnival Firenze is expected this Wednesday, the 23rd, making its fourth visit of the month. Additionally, on October 29th, the Discovery Princess and the Majestic Princess will arrive, and on the 30th, the Carnival Firenze and the Konigsdam are expected to dock.
