The Nayarit Tourism Secretariat and organizers of high-level events announced the calendar of sports competitions that will take place in the coming months.
Juan Enrique Suárez del Real Tostado, Secretary of Tourism of that entity, assured that all these events, of international stature, seek to bring benefits to the community and make known the natural and cultural wonders of Nayarit.
Thus, more than 3 thousand competitors will meet to carry out the Ironman 70.3 long-distance triathlon that will take place in Bahía de Banderas, Riviera Nayarit, on November 10, 2024.
In addition, on November 23, the Islas Marías will be the stage for the Islas Marías Half Marathon, with distances of 21 km, 10 km and 5 km, in collaboration with the Secretariat of the Navy and Turimar Islas Marías, it is expected to receive 300 athletes in this unique race.
From November 20 to 24, Tecuitata-San Blas and the Ceboruco-Jala Volcano will be the meeting points for paragliding and hang gliding lovers. Vuela Nayarit, in its third edition, is an international event that will bring together experienced pilots to carry out “Fly Inn” practice and promotional flights. Up to 60 athletes are expected to participate.
For adrenaline lovers, Nayarit will also offer the Nayarit Desde el Cielo event, dedicated to precision acrobatic parachuting. This discipline, known as “swooping,” will test the skills of the most experienced pilots. This highly anticipated event will take place from November 29 to December 1, 2024 in Mexcaltitlán and Bahía de Banderas.
Also from December 13 to 15, the magical town of Sayulita will become the mecca of surfing with a competition that promises strong emotions. With up to 150 surfers competing in various categories, from longboard to the most radical shortboard maneuvers, the Sayulita Open Surf will be an unmissable event for surfers of all ages.
Likewise, Bahía de Banderas will become the epicenter of road cycling in Mexico by hosting, for the first time, the Gran Fondo Nayarit on April 5, 2025. This renowned event, one of the largest in North America, will come to offer more than two thousand cyclists a unique experience on a 100-kilometer route through the most spectacular landscapes.
Bucerías, in Bahía de Banderas, is getting ready to receive from May 16 to 18, 2025, more than 3 thousand spectators and more than 400 athletes from 10 countries, who will participate in this kiteboarding event, the largest in Mexico and Latin America. Modalities included: Freestyle, Downwind, Slalom, Big Air, Long Distance and Foil Regatta.
On March 15, 2025, Nayarit will become the epicenter of world trail running with the third edition of the International Ultramarathon from the Mountain to the Sea. This race has a challenging mountain-to-beach circuit, crossing three municipalities.
Finally, from April to December 2025, the First International Series in Magical Towns of Nayarit will take place. For nine months, participants will travel through: Ixtlán del Río, Amatlán de Cañas, Ahuacatlán, Jala, Compostela, Sayulita, San Blas, Mexcaltitán and Islas Marías. Each month, a new magical town will be the setting for this race with distances of 5, 10 and 15 kilometers. Participants will be able to obtain a commemorative medal for each stage completed and enjoy cultural festivals full of color, flavor and tradition.
