The president of the Senate’s Standing Committee, Gerardo Fernández Noroña, confronted students who accused him of initiating a proposal by Morena to establish that no resources for appeal would proceed in constitutional reforms.
As he tried to enter an elevator, Senator Noroña was questioned by young people about the proposal known as “constitutional supremacy”. In response, Noroña stated that they were “doing the task for the judiciary” and that it was a false debate:
“What they don’t want is for the people to be chosen as judges… The only thing we are proposing is that Article 61, section 1, which is in the current Amparo Law and says, ‘no appeal proceeds against a constitutional reform’, should remain in the Constitution,” he said.
The senator challenged a student in front of the media to demonstrate his claims, as “he was failing to tell the truth” by saying that Morena intended for reforms not to be reviewed due to legislative vices.
Noroña accuses students of being part of MC
On his social networks, Noroña accused the fact, assuring that the students could enter the legislative building through Movimiento Ciudadano (MC):
“After this press conference, young people approached me who entered with Movimiento Ciudadano to insist on the disqualification of the constitutional reform we presented yesterday,”.
For his part, José Mario de la Garza, who identified himself on social networks as the student who confronted him, returned the challenge:
“I challenge you, like you did, Fernández Noroña, to animate an open and plural dialogue to debate the implications of these constitutional changes,” he expressed in his X (formerly Twitter) account.
