The ‘Huastecas Airport’ in Tamuín will have a helipad, six slots and a new control tower inspired by local cultures.
Can you imagine an airport in the Huasteca that not only connects this beautiful region with the rest of the country, but also with the world? This is about to become a reality. The ‘Huastecas Airport’ in Tamuín, San Luis Potosí, is about to receive an expansion that will change the tourist and economic panorama of the region.
The National Defense Secretariat (Sedena), through the Olmeca-Maya-Mexica Airport, Railway and Auxiliary Services Group (GAFSACOMM), presented the master plan for the rehabilitation and expansion of the Tamuín Airport. This project, with an investment of close to 4 billion pesos, covers the intervention in 238 hectares.
What will the Huasteca Airport be like?
The renovated Las Huastecas Airport will not only have two runways and a helipad, but will also offer six aircraft slots and even a shopping center. This complex will be able to receive national and international flights, positioning the Huasteca as a top-level tourist destination.
The new air terminal will include a control tower with an architectural theme related to the Teenek and Nahuatl cultures, paying homage to the cultural roots of the region. In addition, an “Air School” will be established, which will promote the training of new aviation professionals.
Start of works
The works are scheduled to begin in November 2024 and are expected to be completed within twelve months. The speed in the execution of this project is key to begin enjoying its benefits as soon as possible.
To ensure that the project has a positive impact on the local community, an Advisory Council was formed that includes representatives of the private sector, municipal authorities, academics, merchants, tour operators and the former owner of the expropriated land, Gastón Santos Ward.
The local government hopes that this new airport will bring with it a series of economic and social benefits for the Huasteca. By facilitating the arrival of national and international tourists, a significant increase in tourist activity is expected.
The “Huastecas Airport” in Tamuín will mark a before and after in the region. With its capacity to receive national and international flights, as well as its modern infrastructure, this project promises to transform the Huasteca into a key tourist and economic destination.
