Former President Donald Trump called late US Army soldier Vanessa Guillen a “f—ing Mexican” after learning that the $60,000 cost of her funeral, which he had offered to pay for, was too much for his taste.
Guillen, who passed away in 2020 at the age of 20, was murdered by another soldier on base at Fort Hood, Texas, a notorious place for women in the US military. After Guillen’s death, Trump invited her family to the White House and offered to cover the cost of her funeral.
“I saw what happened to your daughter Vanessa, who was a fantastic person and respected by everyone, including in the military,” Trump said, according to The Atlantic. “If I can assist you with the funeral, I will — I’ll help you financially.”
However, when Guillen’s family sent a bill for $60,000 to the White House, Trump was enraged.
“What did it cost?” Trump asked his staff. When they informed him that the total was $60,000, he exploded in anger.
“It doesn’t cost 60,000 bucks to bury a f—ing Mexican! Don’t pay it!” Trump told his former chief of staff, Mark Meadows. The Guillen family’s attorney stated that they never received reimbursement for the funeral costs.
The Atlantic’s investigation also revealed that Trump had expressed his desire for “Hitler-like generals” after becoming frustrated with the US military’s lack of blind obedience. A spokesperson for Trump called the allegations an “outrageous lie just two weeks before the election.”
