Monumental Catrina boosts tourist arrivals to Puerto Vallarta

Although this year Puerto Vallarta will not renew the Guinness Record for the tallest catrina in the world, this majestic 28.15-meter structure boosts the arrival of tourism and generates millions of views on social media for this beach destination. It was in 2022 when Puerto Vallarta entered the Guinness Book of Records by having the largest catrina in the world, reaching 22.67 meters in height, a figure that was surpassed in 2023 by growing 5.48 meters and reaching 28.15.

For this year, this elegant lady that adorns the city’s boardwalk will maintain her height and although there is no attempt to break the record achieved in 2023, what will be sought is to break the record of visits and views. According to Luis Villaseñor Nolasco, director of the Public Trust for the Promotion and Advertising of Puerto Vallarta Tourism (Fidetur), in 2023 the record of 2.5 million views of the catrina on social media was achieved, but for this year the figure is expected to rise to 3 million, while more than 20 thousand people come to visit it a day, since the previous year there was an average of between 13 and 15 thousand people visiting the boardwalk daily.

Despite her young age, just two years old, the largest Catrina in the world visits and the festival of the dead, now called Remember Me, in Puerto Vallarta has become a tradition and a great attraction for the city.

“(La Catrina) contributes to the experience of the trip, motivates more people to come in that period and what we have achieved is a media impact. There were more than 2.5 million hits (on social media) last year. This edition we hope to exceed more than 3 million reaches,” Villaseñor Nolasco explained.
