With a wide range of events, musical, theatrical and dance performances, as well as montages, the Axixic Vive “La Magia” Day of the Dead Festival will take place on November 1 and 2 in the main square, Colón, Morelos and Ajijic boardwalks.
Celebrating and preserving the tradition of the Day of the Dead in Ajijic, promoting a family, cultural and artistic experience, respecting the Mexican identity, is the purpose promoted by the Patronato Día de Muertos Ajijic, who during the press conference, held last Friday, October 11 at the Ajijic Cultural Center (CCA), said: “This year’s guest is the performing arts, all performed by people from Ajijic. Dance and theater groups were invited, and everyone who wants to join is more than welcome,” said Domingo Márquez, president of the board, who highlighted the presentations throughout the day.
This year, the great number of performances in the downtown area stands out, on the stages that will be located in the plaza and on the boardwalk, throughout the day, during November 2nd. Among the extensive program are musical, theatrical, dance, storytelling and literary calaveritas performances, among others. Some of the performances, presentations and montages that were mentioned in the press conference are the installation “La Serenata” by Raúl Pulido, with catrinas of approximately nine meters, outside the Cultural Center of Ajijic (CCA).
On the other hand, traditions of the town will be included, such as the balloon teams, to participate in “Luz al Cielo”, where hot air balloons are raised on the Ajijic boardwalk, on November 2nd, at 9:30 p.m. The balloon launching area will be in the area of the letters of Ajijic, on the boardwalk.
“This year we chose ‘Magic’ as our slogan, which is the magic of its traditions, of its people, and that is what makes Ajijic magical, it is its people,” said Domingo. On the other hand, Bernabé Robledo, member of the board and in charge of CETAC 01 Ajijic, said that the word to define the project would be unity, due to the efforts that have been made together with those involved.
The rest of the program remains similar to last year. There are activities such as the opening of the CETAC gastronomic pavilion, where a Mexican gastronomic proposal prepared by students of the school will be presented, the parades on the 1st and 2nd, the Axixic Vive walkway located in Colón-Morelos, the xoloitzcuintle contest on the Camino al Mictlan, the floral offering to the lake, the catrines and catrinas waltz, and finally, starting at eight o’clock at night, the presentation of the Mariachí Real Ajijic, the Dance of the Dead, on the boardwalk, which will include musical performances.
Merchants, as well as authorities, were asked to support the regularization of the harvest of items that are not food, all in order to ensure a calm and traditional festival, without promoting consumerism. “We want to ask street vendors to come to the festival, not to sell, there will be food stands, but those who sell this or that, it is better to come to the festival. This year they contacted us to ask for spaces for sale, we do not want the festival to become a market, they should come and enjoy themselves,” said Domingo.
The press conference table was made up of the president of the board, Domingo Márquez, the vice president of the board and in charge of CETAC 01 Ajijic Campus, Bernabé Robledo, the collaborator and artist from Ajijic Daniel Palma, the liaison with the foreign community Patrick O’Heffernan, as coordinator of catrinas Rodrigo López, the person in charge of the installation “La Serenata” by Raúl Pulido, the person in charge of the office of Ajijic, Timoteo Aldana Pérez, the director of culture Jesús Escamilla, the person in charge of the House of Culture, Héctor Hinojosa and the councilors for Ajijic Guillermo Heredia and Patricia Márquez.
