Armed attacks against police officers have become constant in Mexico, and one of the most recent cases occurred in the state of Puebla, where armed men killed two officers.
The attack occurred in the municipality of Xoxtla, where the victims were aboard a patrol car when they were attacked with more than 20 shots, losing their lives on the spot.
Upon hearing the shots, neighbors called the emergency number and elements of the State Attorney General’s Office arrived at the crime scene, the same where the lifeless body of a businessman was found a few days ago.
However, when the investigations into this crime began, some inconsistencies arose, since in the unit where they died, a bag was found with a white granular solid substance identified as crystal, which could indicate a relationship between the agents and possible illicit activities.
Later, the state Public Security Secretariat reported in a statement that the murdered police officers were not registered in the National Registry of Public Security Personnel, and did not have their trust control evaluations in force.
Were they police officers or not?
This means that the victims, whose identity has not been revealed, were not duly accredited as municipal police officers, so it has not been possible to confirm whether they actually belonged to the corporation, and it has not been determined whether the vehicle was official or counterfeit.
According to the newspaper El Sol de Puebla, no authority of the Xoxtla City Council took a position, while the current municipal president, Guadalupe Ortiz, was not found in her office.
In turn, personnel who provide attention to the public reported that in order not to hinder the investigations of the State Attorney General’s Office, any comment would be avoided.
So far this year, nine police officers have been murdered in the state of Puebla, according to the organization Causa en Común, while 240 officers have been reported murdered nationwide, with the states of Guanajuato, State of Mexico, Chiapas, Nuevo León and Guerrero reporting the most cases.
