Necaxa, with more than 100 years of history, was not always based in Aguascalientes. Before 2003, during its golden age in which it won three championships, its home was the Azteca Stadium.
It was in 2003 when the club changed its headquarters to Aguascalientes, settling in its new stadium, the Estadio Victoria.
When was this stadium built?
The Estadio Victoria, with capacity for more than 20 thousand spectators, has 11 emergency exits and has a snack bar within its facilities. Its name was given by Grupo Modelo, which baptized it “Victoria” in honor of one of its beers.
The construction of the stadium began in May 2002 in the same place where the old Municipal Stadium was located, which had capacity for eight thousand fans. The work was authorized by the then municipal president of Aguascalientes, Luis Armando Reynoso Femat.
The stadium was inaugurated just fourteen months later, on July 26, 2003, with a friendly match against Club Deportivo Guadalajara, which they won 1-0. The first goal was scored by Guadalajara’s Jorge Barrera, from a penalty kick in the south goal.
The stadium’s official debut in the tournament was against Club San Luis, with a 1-1 draw. Víctor Ruiz became the first Necaxa player to score in their new home. The team’s first victory at Estadio Victoria came two weeks later, when they beat Atlante 2-0.
Where is the stadium?
The stadium is located in the central Héroes neighborhood, across from the Alberto Romo Chávez baseball park. Its official address is: Manuel Zavala Madrigal 101, Héroes, 20190 Aguascalientes, Ags.
