Authorities in the state of Guerrero, Mexico, asked the citizens of Tecpán de Galeana on Thursday to “stay calm” in the face of reports of violent incidents in the municipality of more than 65,000 inhabitants. The government also said in a statement that the state prosecutor’s office had reinforced security measures in “various municipalities” in the region known as Costa Grande, located in southeastern Mexico.
Among the alleged acts of violence are reports of clashes between members of the security forces and armed civilians, as well as blockades on some of the state’s highways, according to a report by local media El Sur de Guerrero.

CNN has tried to contact the Guerrero government and the mayor’s office of Tecpán de Galeana by phone to find out more details, without having received a response so far.
Guerrero Governor Evelyn Salgado reported in a publication by X that in light of the events in the municipality of Tecpán de Galeana there is “the presence of state and federal forces, who maintain a significant security deployment in the region.”
Salgado said she had instructed the authorities to “strengthen security to safeguard the integrity of the population,” but did not give further details of the situation.
