Due to the closure that maintains the traffic interruption towards Puebla, drivers coming from Veracruz have two alternate route options.
It was through their X account, formerly Twitter, that the state agency shared their report, detailing that the traffic interruption is maintained entirely at kilometer 231 of the mentioned highway, towards Acatzingo, Puebla.
Due to the landslide, it was also reported that there is an approximate 24-kilometer queue in the area, so Capufe urges drivers to take precautions and drive carefully in the area.
Due to the incident, some users have reported being stranded at the site for several hours.
The landslide occurred on Friday night, less than a kilometer and a half from the one that occurred last Sunday, due to the weather conditions in the area in recent days.
It is estimated that traffic will reopen by this Sunday.
On the other hand, the State Civil Protection Coordination reported that Capufe is already working with heavy machinery in the area to remove the material obstructing traffic.
In this regard, the agency announced that the debris to be removed, at the limits of Puebla and Veracruz, is approximately 12 meters high by 300 meters long, and due to the large dimensions of the landslide, it is estimated that the work will be completed by this Sunday, so the highway will remain closed, only towards Puebla.
Two tankers trapped and two people with nervous breakdowns, the results of the landslide
Likewise, the Regional Coordinator of this Administrative Unit based in Ciudad Serdán, National Guard, and Civil Protection of Esperanza, reported that due to the landslide, two people at the site were treated for nervous breakdowns.
Similarly, it was reported that two vehicles were affected, specifically two fuel tankers that were trapped under the earth on the Veracruz side, and work is underway to remove them. So far, there are no more affected or injured people.
Alternate routes you can take due to highway closure
Due to the closure of the Acatzingo – Ciudad Mendoza highway, for attention to the landslide, which maintains the traffic interruption towards Puebla, drivers coming from Veracruz have two alternate route options.
According to the Google Maps application, the first option, estimated to take approximately one hour and 57 minutes, would be via the Orizaba – Tehuacán highway, then follow the federal highway Mexico 150 and Orizaba – Puebla Highway, continuing on the Córdoba – Puebla highway, then Nogales – Amozoc De Mota and finally, Mexico 150D.
The second option would be via the Orizaba – Puebla Highway, then continue on the Córdoba – Puebla highway, following the federal highway Mexico 150D and Mexico 144, although it should be noted that this route is longer, with an estimated travel time of approximately two hours and 12 minutes.
Coming from Xalapa, take the federal highway 140D that passes through Perote-Zacatepec-San Salvador El Seco-Acatzingo-Tepeaca-Amozoc-Puebla.
Also: if you are coming from Veracruz, Xalapa, or Orizaba towards Puebla, you should divert towards the Cumbres de Acultzingo via the federal highway towards Tehuacán to exit at Puerto del Aire, from there head towards the highway to Cañada Morelos or Ciudad Serdán, which will take you directly to the Esperanza toll booth and from there rejoin the Mexico-Puebla highway to continue your journey.
