An earthquake with an epicenter southwest of Ciudad Hidalgo, Chiapas, was recorded on Friday morning, according to the National Seismological Service (SSN).
Authorities reported that the magnitude was 5.8 on the Richter scale, and it occurred at 8:46 a.m.
In light of this, Civil Protection of Chiapas reported that the monitoring protocol was deployed to review possible effects in the state.
“Preliminary reports indicate that no damage or injuries have been reported,” they reported through their account on X.
Around 2:00 a.m. on Friday, another earthquake was recorded in Chiapas in the town of Pijijiapan with a magnitude of 4.4 degrees.
In addition, the SSN recorded that at 10:39 p.m. on Thursday, a 3.4-degree tremor was detected south of the state, in Cintalapa, and an hour earlier in Masatepec, one of 3.9 degrees. In neither case did the state authorities warn of any damage to the population or buildings.
Due to the proximity of the Chiapas town to the border with Guatemala, the country also issued its alert and reported that it was felt in the town of San Marcos.
In the south of the country, during the early hours of this Friday, other earthquakes were also recorded, such as in Ciudad Ixtepec, Oaxaca, with a magnitude of 4.0, at 7:32 in the morning; in Coalcolman, Michoacán at 4:54, with a magnitude of 3.6; previously two more were reported in Veracruz and Oaxaca with a magnitude of 3.2 and 3.4.
