The overturning of a National Guard truck on the Mexico-Morelia-Guadalajara highway left two agents dead and 24 more injured, four of them seriously.
The Medical Emergency Regulatory Center (CRUM) reported that the accident occurred around noon, at kilometer 343+500, within the limits of the Michoacan municipality of Panindícuaro.
The agents were traveling aboard a troop transport truck from the Chinese brand Foton, which overturned on the two lanes in the Morelia-Zamora direction.
Two agents died immediately, while 24 more were thrown from the unit and remained on the asphalt.
At least 10 ambulances from various corporations went to the area, whose paramedics determined that of the 24 injured, four are considered serious.
The injured were transferred to various hospitals in the municipality of Zamora, while the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) began the first investigations into the case.
In 2023, the National Guard acquired a batch of personnel and cargo transport trucks from the Chinese company Foton, which operates in various cities in Mexico, sparking a series of criticisms due to the instability and recurring failures in the rolling system of the units.
According to a source from the National Guard, the elements were part of a group of agents who would reinforce activities against organized crime in “red spots” in the country.
