Filmmakers rescued in Baja California desert; they were looking for locations for the film by Alfonso Cuarón’s son

Disoriented and on the verge of dehydration, five filmmakers from Tijuana, Mexico City and Mexicali were found stranded in the desert area of ​​La Salada, while they were prospecting the area for the new film by filmmaker Jonás Cuarón, Campeón Gabacho.

The discovery took place on the afternoon of Tuesday, October 22, and became relevant locally a day later. According to reports from Zeta and Brújula News, the encounter was fortuitous. Two filmmakers were wandering around the area looking for help after the van they were traveling in was stranded. Óscar Inzunza Gutiérrez and Erick López Olivera were found by members of the Local Search Commission and the Madres Unidas y Fuertes collective, near kilometer 86.5 of the Mexicali-San Felipe highway, who were doing a scheduled inspection in La Salada.

Without water and at 40 degrees Celsius

Óscar Inzunza Gutiérrez and Erick López Olivera were hydrated and stabilized. The filmmakers were disoriented and on the verge of dehydration after walking for hours through the desert in temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius.

The filmmakers indicated that their vehicle was stranded in a location where their cell phones did not register a signal. Both decided to walk in search of help, while the rest of the team stayed in the area of ​​the incident.

Members of the Local Search Commission and the Madres Unidas y Fuertes collective combed the area and located three other filmmakers near the area described by Inzunza Gutiérrez and López Olivera. After not hearing from their companions, Óscar Abel Valenzuela Olivas, Jesús Guadalupe López Aguirre and Manuel Roberto Campillo Morales decided to walk in the opposite direction in search of help.

After being stabilized, the five filmmakers were transferred to a safe area, where contact was established with their production company. According to the filmmakers, the Baja California Film Commission was aware of the prospecting they were doing in the area.

Who is Jonás Cuarón?

Jonás Cuarón, son of acclaimed director Alfonso Cuarón, has forged his own career in the world of cinema. Born in 1981 in Mexico City, he showed a strong interest in cinematography from a young age. He studied at Vassar College, where he studied Theater, English Literature and Fine Arts.
