Following the capture of their leaders by the US, criminal groups in Sinaloa are more armed and escorted: Sedena

The head of the National Defense Secretariat (Sedena), General Ricardo Trevilla Trejo, considered that since the arrest of their leaders by United States authorities, organized crime groups in Sinaloa are more violent, more armed and escorted.

During the morning conference of President Claudia Sheinbaum, from Baja California Sur, the general was questioned about the operation that resulted in the capture of Edwin Antonio, alias “El Max” or “El Oso”, in Culiacán, where 19 people lost their lives.

“In the case of Sinaloa, the origin of what is happening in Sinaloa was the arrest of a criminal by the United States and that has made the groups more violent, more armed and more careful with their leaders,” he explained.

General Ricardo Trevilla said that after the capture of Ovidio Guzmán, “the criminals increased their escorts, very violent hitmen, willing to give their lives for their protégés,” mainly in Sinaloa.

However, he stressed that the Army and National Guard personnel who participate in these special operations against crime are perfectly trained and equipped.

“The military personnel who attend these events are trained, capable people, with a lot of discipline, with protective equipment, bulletproof vests, helmets, and this was the result, the leader they were after was arrested,” said the military commander.

The Secretary of Defense explained that the Attorney General’s Office is already investigating the operation where they captured “El Oso,” because 19 criminals and no soldiers lost their lives in the confrontation.

“Regarding what they mentioned, the FGR is already investigating, it immediately took action, as well as the military justice prosecutor’s office in case any military crime has been committed, they will be in charge of reporting what is appropriate,” he concluded.
