Popocatépetl Volcano: Light ash fall expected in Puebla

The governor of Puebla, Sergio Salomón, reported that this Saturday activities at the Hermanos Serdán Airport were suspended again to carry out cleaning work due to the fall of ash from the recent activity of the Popocatépetl volcano.

Through his X account, the Puebla governor indicated that a slight fall of ash is expected in municipalities such as San Nicolás de los Ranchos, Chiautzingo, San Felipe Teotlalcingo, San Salvador el Verde, Huejotzingo, San Martin Texmelucan, San Matías Tlalancaleca and Calpan.

“The Popocatépetl volcano registered constant activity during the night, including the emission of gases, steam and ash,” reported the governor of the entity.

According to the state leader, activities at the airport will remain suspended until 11:00 a.m. this Saturday.

Due to the suspension of activities, airlines such as Viva Aerobus had to cancel some flights, so travelers are advised to check with their airline for more information about their flights.

For its part, the General Coordination of Civil Protection and Disaster Risk Management of the State of Puebla reported that the Popocatépetl volcano presented several periods of tremor during the night, the main one being the one that occurred between 11:52 p.m. yesterday and 1:50 a.m. today, which was accompanied by the expulsion of ballistic missiles around the crater.

“The volcanic alert light remains in Yellow Phase 2, the observed activity is within the parameters of the Alert level.”

Due to the above, it was mentioned that the emission of water vapor, gases and ash has remained constant throughout the night in the direction of the states of Puebla, Tlaxcala and Veracruz.
