As part of the actions to boost economic activity in the southern part of the state, the creation of a loading dock has been proposed.
According to Artemio Santos Santos, who oversees the coordination office of state government advisors, various companies have expressed interest in investing in the construction of a loading dock in Mahahual. He noted that the feasibility of building a dock on the southern coast of the state needs to be considered.
In this regard, he also mentioned that, without a doubt, this proposal would contribute to the economic consolidation of the southern zone of Quintana Roo, as it would become a strategic point for export and import, which could have a positive impact not only on the state but also nationally, as the dock could be useful for neighboring entities that do not have one and are closer to this area.
He also noted that market studies to measure the feasibility of the dock have already begun; therefore, once completed, the next step will be up to the private sector, which will consist of choosing the location for the dock and the amount of investment, provided the studies show a positive result that favors the materialization of this proposal.
Additionally, Santos Santos mentioned that they are also in communication with the authorities of the neighboring country of Belize so that producers from Quintana Roo can use their dock while the relevant market studies are completed, positioning the entity from now on and consolidating its position once it has its own loading dock.
However, the proposal is still awaiting the green light from those involved to begin construction of the dock; for now, it remains a project to be implemented on the southern coast of Quintana Roo.
