A massive landslide on the Puebla-Orizaba Highway in the Cumbres de Maltrata has caused an emergency, with a 32-kilometer traffic jam.
The incident, which occurred on October 26, affects the section between Acatzingo and Ciudad Mendoza towards Puebla, trapping heavy vehicles, including fuel tankers and Cemex trucks.
The National Guard has set up checkpoints to manage the situation and divert traffic to the free road in Nogales, Veracruz.
Cleanup efforts are expected to extend the closure until at least October 27, possibly longer.
This landslide, located in El Mirador, Atzizintla, Puebla, highlights the area’s vulnerability to landslides and is the second significant incident on the road in recent days.
A ‘technical emergency’ has been declared, and heavy machinery is being used to clear the area. Traffic resumption may be delayed further to ensure the stability of the terrain and the safety of road users.
