UN monitors arrests of indigenous artisans in Querétaro

The arrest of ten people, including indigenous artisans and students allegedly from the Autonomous University of Querétaro, during an operation against street vendors in the Historic Center of Querétaro, has caught the attention of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Mexico (UN-DH).

Through its official account on the social network “X”, the UN-DH announced that it is monitoring the situation to ensure respect for the rights and freedoms of those detained, which has generated divided opinions on social networks.

“We are aware of the arrest of at least nine people today in #Querétaro, including indigenous people, protesters and #HumanRights observers. From the UN-DH, we are monitoring to ensure that their fundamental rights and freedoms are respected.”
